As you travel across wide open mountain landscape, through the Saltfjellet national park you will cross the Arctic Circle. The area offers an abundance of walking and hiking opportunities and good freshwater fishing possibilities.
The Arctic Circle centre, situated at 66 degrees, 32 minutes north latitude, is a natural stopping point. The centre, which has been built to blend in with its surroundings, is situated next to the E6 road and offers a café serving local food, a cinema and exhibition hall with information on the Arctic Circle and a souvenir shop. Visit the post office and have your postcards stamped and sent from the Arctic Circle.
The area just south of the Arctic Circle is full of adventures for the whole family. Visit the 2nd largest glacier in Norway, the Svartisen glacier, explore the only tourist lit cave in Norway, Grønligrotta, or join a guided tour through the more challenging Setergrotta. At Langfjell farm you can join a horse riding tour through stunning scenery.
If you travel the coastal route and the national tourist road FV17 you can combine a boat trip on the beautiful Helgeland coast with crossing the Arctic Circle. Polar Camp campsite, near Kilboghamn, offers boat trips weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Experience the Melfjorden fjord with the impressive 300m waterfall and cross the Arctic Circle and see the island of Vikingen with the Arctic Circle globe.
